Real talk: the question we get more than almost any other is not about pricing or features. It’s “where did the name Oh My Hi come from?” And honestly, the answer is a longer story than most people expect, because Oh My Hi didn’t start as Oh My Hi at all.
Let me take you back.
It started with a weekend and a whole lot of tutorials
Before there was a platform, there was a course. Our very first offer was called Launch a Website in a Weekend.
Here’s the backstory. I had built websites for my own direct sales business and for people on my team, and I kept hearing the same thing: “How did you do that? Can you show me?” So we did what felt obvious at the time. We built an entire course teaching people how to build a WordPress site from scratch.
And friend, it was a lot. A lot of tutorials. A lot of training. A lot of “wait, which plugin was that again?” We poured ourselves into it, and it worked… but it also taught us something important. Our people did not need something that sophisticated. They needed simple. They needed something they literally could not break.
So we backed out of the “build it yourself from scratch” world. And that’s when the real story starts.
The ugly-website problem that changed everything
Around that time, we had a corporate client with a whole team of reps. And those reps were out there building websites on GoDaddy that were… let’s just say not pretty. Totally off-brand. The kind of site that makes a great company look accidentally sloppy.
On top of that, the client had no commerce platform. Their reps were linking out to a separate app just to sell their inventory. It was clunky, it was scattered, and it did not match the polished brand the company had worked so hard to build.
So they came to us with a simple ask: can you give our people a pretty, on-brand website without letting them break anything?
That was the very first version of Oh My Hi. It wasn’t a builder. It was a form. Reps filled it out, and it populated a clean, on-brand template automatically. No design skills required. No ugly GoDaddy energy. Just fill in the blanks and go.
So… where did the name come from?
Okay, the part you actually clicked for.
We went back and forth on names for a long time. “Hi there.” “Hello there.” “Hey, hello.” “Oh, hi.” We had a whole pile of funny little combinations we kept playing with. And the whole time, we knew one thing for sure: we had to land a .com. In this day and age, getting a clean, short .com is genuinely hard to come by.
So we kept mixing pieces together until we landed on Oh My. And then it clicked: Oh My Hi. It had a rhythm to it. It was six letters, it had a real .com available, and it felt like something we could actually scale.
Now, one thing we did not fully see coming? A lot of people read that “hi” as “high” (h-i-g-h). Ha. To be very clear, that is not the vibe we were going for. It’s just hi. A friendly little hello.
Sunshine, coffee, and a brand that finally felt like us
When we first imagined the look, we thought we’d go modern and minimal. Browns, beiges, whites. Clean and quiet and a little bit techy.
But the more I worked on it, the more that felt wrong. We are not a quiet, monotone tech company. We’re real humans in San Diego who built this thing on sunshine and coffee. So we leaned all the way into bright, fun, friendly colors that actually feel like us. Personality over polish. Warmth over “corporate software.”
From a form to a full home base
Here’s the fun part: Oh My Hi did not stay a form for long. We kept asking, “Okay, what else can this do for people?”
So we gave people room to grow:
→ Pick your own colors, design, and pages instead of a locked template
→ Add unlimited pages and unlimited blog posts
→ Add unlimited forms
→ Build in an email marketing system and a CRM, because people were struggling to duct-tape their website and their email together
→ Accept payments right through your forms
That last piece matters. We don’t have a giant embedded checkout cart, and we did that on purpose. You can still take payments through your site without the platform turning into something you need a manual to run.
The goal was always the same: an all-in-one home base where you can get what you need quickly, in one place, without piecing together five different tools.
Not just for direct sellers anymore
For a long time, Oh My Hi lived inside the direct sales world, because that’s where our audience already was. But a website, an email platform, and a CRM? That’s not a direct-sales thing. That’s an everybody thing.
So we opened the doors wider:
→ Authors who sell their books on Amazon but need a real home base
→ Service providers booking appointments through their site
→ Coaches selling packages and programs
Same simple tool. Way bigger world.
What we refused to compromise on
We’ve added a lot of bells and whistles over the years. But we have been almost stubborn about one thing: keeping it simple. You genuinely cannot break Oh My Hi. And if you ever get stuck, or something doesn’t look quite the way you pictured, we have live support every single week where we help you hands-on.
That’s honestly how I think of Oh My Hi. Not as software you’re left alone with, but as a boutique agency at a price that actually makes sense. You sign up, you get support, you get help, and you get to keep building.
Why I call it Jeremy’s baby
Here’s the thing I don’t say often enough. Oh My Hi is really Jeremy’s brilliance.
When I started out, I was heads-down building Modern Direct Seller. That was my first big build, the one we scaled first. Oh My Hi came from Jeremy: his tech skills, his project management brain, and the coding he taught himself so that other people could simplify their business, save money, save time, and still build real community.
Some days I have to remind myself of that, because MDS still brings in so much of our revenue that it’s easy to keep it front and center. But I never want Oh My Hi to be the stepchild of what we do. It’s both of our babies. And the more we build, the more we’re leaning into that.
Come build with us
If you’ve been cobbling together a website here, an email tool there, and a checkout link somewhere else, I’d love for you to see what having one simple home base feels like.
Come get started with Oh My Hi. Bring your sunshine. We’ve got the coffee.
xx, Becky
